Sweepstakes scam

Miscellaneous

Same scam, you win 455,000 but you have to pay the insurance of XXX. First they got my mother for $1,050, which apparently ended up in Costa Rica. Here's the best part. Since then she has been approached by 3 people that want "to make it right". It will only cost her $500 $500 and $400 (three different attempts now) to recover her "true prize".

The Calls have come from the NSA (National Security Agency), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the original prize giver Las Vegas Dream Foundation Inc, OR Las Vegas Gaming Inc. Yes... Even the name of the prize giver changed... Although the amount remains at $455,000 won.

I was not able to save my mother the initial $1,050, that is gone. But i have saved her an additional $1,400 from the 3 guys (same guy who tries to change his voice) who keep trying to "help my mom to claim the "real" prize". The 3 guys always start with the sympathetic "We are sorry you were scammed, we are working to recover your money, in the meantime, we have great news, you really did win $455,000, and we will help you claim it... FOR REAL!!!" The original $1050 was wired through Western Union, but the follow up scam was FedEx and UPS C.O.D. Scams. Please stay away from these guys. They are bad news.

On a personal level, let me give a little more information. My mother is on Social Security. She is a widow and very gullible at 80 years of age. She would normally not have $1,000 to send through Western Union. The ONLY reason she had that money was because i managed to sell my deceased father's OLD car for $1,000 only 5 DAYS before she got scammed!!! It took me a year to fix that car up and sell it (per her request). 5 days later, the $1000 she got from the sale was up in smoke. $1050 wired to Costa Rica and $63 in fees, total loss was $1,113.

I am furious, especially at these follow ups... What can i do? The number the slimebag gave me was: 202-558-4621... Supposedly Juan Martinez from the FTC.
Everytime he calls I point out the flaws in his scam. He has the audacity to call back with the changes to his story that I pointed out last time, with a SLIGHTLY different voice, a new name, and a new Agency!!!
