Lisa Platt is an inadequate landlord. She is only in the business for the money and does not care about her tentants at all. When I moved into the apartment she told me that because she lived close she could come "anytime" if there was an issue. The first time that I had an issue (a broken stove in the middle of winter) she said that it would be fixed the next week and advised me to only cook on top of the stove. A week for something that could be repaired easily in 1 day is absurd.
Another major issue that I had was the toilet in the apartment, it broke 3 times. I had confirmation from the plumber than the issue is with the drainage due to it being in old house. He said that the entire system needed to be taken out and fixed. He told me that she was unable to pay to have it fixed because of a repair in another rental property. Then the landlord called and blamed me for the problem, saying that I someone clogged the toilet. I have never had a problem with excessive toilet clogging and I am familiar with use of a toilet. She just did not want to pay to have the system fixed.
I went above and beyond as a resident in the house... Decorating for holidays, taking out the trash of every tenant there instead of only my own. I even left behind items to help her and the next tenant (a couch that the new tenant wanted, a weedwacker that I thought they could use). Lisa was always nice to my face, saying that she "wished all tenants were like me" and thanking me for my help.
The nice facade quickly faded when I moved out of the apartment. I left a forwarding address of where to send my security deposit, along with keys (including an extra set that I paid to have made). I did not receive my deposit so I gave her a call. She forwarded me a check for $45.50 as a refund. I paid her $595.00 originally. She claimed that it took 22 hours to clean the apartment after I left. I had already cleaned it, and had been doing so for weeks prior to moving out. Most of the appliances were cleaner when I left than when I moved in. Upon moving in, there was old grease at the bottom of the oven that I had to clean. The top of the stove was sticky and the shelves were dusty. When I left, I made sure that the place was clean. I have witnesses who helped me move out who said that the apartment was in fact clean. The man who moved in after me was even there and took some of my old items. We were chatting and I showed him around, he had no issue with the cleanliness of the apartment. There is absolutely, positively no way that it took 22 hours to clean that apartment. There were not damages to the apartment and as stated in the Pennsylvania Landlord/Tenant act, landlords are only allowed to withhold damages.in retrospect, I should have taken pictures of the clean apartment (I mistakenly thought at the time that Lisa Platt was an honest human being, I now know differently).
I even have confirmation from an Aspinwall resident that the new tenant moved into my apartment only a few days after my moving out and that Lisa had not spent 22 hours cleaning the place. I accept the fact that I have been wronged and should have not been as trusting as I once was. I would, however, like to warn other tenants to not make the same mistake and rent from this woman in the future.
