Our family purchased the Wii Fit 6 months ago. We have enjoyed using this software. Unfortunately, both myself and one son has developed negative physical conditions as a result of continued use. I would like to state that neither of us suffered from any sort of problem like this prior to using the Wii Fit Board. I was diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis in both feet and my right foot was placed in an air cast. The Plantar Fasciitis caused me to walk differently to compensate for the pain and thus I, in turn, fractured the top part of my foot. My son, who is only 8 years old, was recently diagnosed with Severs Disease which is in essence the Plantar Fasciitis condition for children. Our doctor has placed him in an air cast so as not to fracture his foot while he works on bettering his inflamation. Perhaps, our genes have predisposed us to this condition. My other two sons have thankfully, not developed these foot issues. However, the repeated use of the balance board minus athletic shoes, we believe, caused this circumstance. Nintendo Wii Fit directions instruct users to use the balance board barefoot (unless otherwise specified by a doctor not to). Only now that we suffer from these conditions have we seen a doctor and been told to wear athletic shoes from no on (with orthotics, I may add) while doing the balance board activities. Of course, we have to both wait 6 - 8 weeks until our casts come off to use the Wii Fit anyway. If only I had suffered, I may not have given much credence to the Wii Fit causing the Plantar Fasciitis. However, the coincidence of my young son enduring the same feet problems within the same time frame that I have causes me great concern. I think Nintendo and Wii Fit should re-evaluate the balance board contruction or directions for use so that others may not develop similar issues.
