Privacy Matter 1-2-3!
Scam, scam

Miscellaneous

My husband works in IT, and a lot of what he does involves security. I feel that we are smart consumers, we are very careful with giving any information out over the internet. Let alone a credit card number. I have no idea how this company actually got out bank information, but they did.

I check my bank account first thing every day. Today I log in to see a charge from our debit card for $29.95 for a company called Privacy Matters. I have never heard of this before so I called my husband at work to see if he knew. Of course he did not. So I called the bank and they gave me the phone number for the company.

After dealing with their automated crap and waiting on hold for some time a woman finally answered. I asked her what company this was and why she charged my bank account. She claimed I signed up for them through a free bakeware site. I told her, "No, I did not, and I want these charges taken off my account TODAY". She told me that the charged would be reversed back to my account within 2 days and I should see it in my bank within 3-5 business days. I told her that I hoped so.

I then did a search for the company on Google and saw all these reports. I called my bank and canceled my debit card, which is a pain since a lot of our bills are on automatic payment plans with that card. I hope they refund our money and this is the last I have to deal with them!
