Privacy Matters, True Assure
Freescoretrio stole credit information from classmates.com

My husband was looking for information about his high school reunion so i bought him a three month membership to classmates.com for 15 dollars online using my debit card. Then i get an email from privacymatters confirming enrollment. So, I search for privacymatters on google and it brings up these consumer complaintss. I tried to cancel so called "enrollment"... But there is no one to talk to, which wasn't a surprise because I read countless reports of their business practices.

At this point, I have been charged $19.95 (5-6-09) from privacy matters, which bounces because there is not enough in my account to cover it. I have been having a lot of problems with overdrafts lately, which I blame on my husband because I assume that because I am tracking my own expenses, that he must be the one messing up.

So, after I get charged 20 bucks for something I know for a fact that neither one of us signed up for, I started checking my statements very closely. (4-20-09) $29.95 from true assure and then another for $1 the same day. (3-20-09) $29.95 from true assure and another for $1 the same day. (2-20-09) $29.95 from true assure. (2-12-09) two separate charges for $1. I do not believe these charges have anything to with privacymatters.

This trueassure.com actually did have a phone number that had a person on the other end. I spoke to a man named Frank. He claimed that he did not have a ID# but is the only Frank in the billing department. They of course agreed to refund two months because they are required to. After some haggling they agreed to refund the full amount of $124.80 (we will see if that happens). Naturally curious, i asked how they got access to my information. Frank claims I put my information in at the web site freescoretrio.com, which I did not. I did however use freecreditreport.com just before these charges started, they gave me a free trial which I canceled within days. Frank claims they are not affilliated with freecreditreport or privacymatters.

I am outraged that companies that are supposed to be helping people view and maintain their credit actually have their hand in doing the exact opposite. Privacy Matters, yeah right! Did my privacy matter when they stole my credit card information off another site.

I have not gotten anywhere with privacy matters, but I am requesting that my bank reverses the charges under regulation E. They may even refund the overdraft charges. I find my bank is very accommidating.
