Shephards Auto Salvage, charged me 500.00 to tow my car 0.4miles because he was upset with my husband

In the early am of July 4th my husband was arrested @ Yopps in Sneads Ferry. My car got towed and the tow company that was called was also a complaining witness in the criminal matter. Later on the 4th I tried to contact him by phone. The sheriffs office said I could have my car back, but the man I spoke with @ Shephards Towing said that he had to ask the boss what it would cost. He said he would call me back. He didn't and all subsequent calls I made went unanswered. The next day, Sunday, I couldn't reach him or anyone @ the tow yard.

On Monday, I finally reached the owner (Farren). He told me that my cooperation in him getting his things back that my husband allegedly took would directly impact my tow bill. I tried to explain that I had no idea what to tell him, I asked him what he had missing, he said tools, computers, and Tvs. I said I had no idea but feel free to come and search my house himself, he said no. I told him he could bring the police if he desired. Again he declined. We hung up and I called Det. Gibbs and informed him of the situation and asked him what I should do. A few hours after I spoke with him, Farren from the tow yard called me back and told me that my tow bill was 500.00 and it was 25.00 a day. When I questioned him about the bill, I asked him how much it usually cost, he told me that usually it was 150.00 an hour but for me it was 500.00. He informed me that he spent hours there (@ the scene), I explained to him that I was there being detained by detectives until they brought me home around 0530 and I didn't see a tow truck. He said he spent hours going through my husbands warehouse. After we hung up, I called the magistrate who advised me to file a civil suit.

The next day, a Detective and CSI came to my house to ask for a consent to search form to be signed. The Detective told me he would try to talk to him but obviously that didn't work. (Thanks for trying though)

We have one car and it's that one. I realize my husband made a mistake but my son and I did not. I don't mind paying a fair tow bill. That's not a problem. But a 500.00 tow bill to go 0.4 miles?

This is a google map that shows the distance my car was towed. 500.00?? There is no way I can come up with that plus 25.00 a day that has built up since I could not come up with 500.00 for the tow alone. So my question is, do I have a case? Can he do this? I filed a complaint against this company with the BBB on July 15.
