Attempted to collect debt

On May 21, I received a collection notice from Jefferson Capital claiming I owed a debt of $577.25. Apparently the original creditor was Cash Advance Centers of Virginia.

The collection letter was very well written and offered a credit card to repay the debt. While their letter contained a volume of information it did not state "If this letter is received in error..."; and that is the case with me.

I have never been in Virginia, except for a drive through, and I do not owe any debts to anyone.
I am active with Senior affairs and suspect some may have paid without checking on this company.
