Ripoff. We must all watch our monthly telephone bills for this kind of nonsense

My daughter is mentally handicapped. She functions well enough to have her own apartment a few blocks from me, but I am in charge of all her finances as she is on Social Security and she cannot pay the bills herself. She doesn't understand how to do this.

While paying her bills, I noticed and extra charge of $5.37 from ILD Teleservices. I asked her what this was, and she knew nothing about it. I looked back on her last bill, and the charge was on it, also.

I called ILD, and talked to a man with a thick accent who told me that my daughter had indeed ordered an 800 phone number from them. I told them this was impossible, since she's handicapped and wouldn't know how to work an 800 number or what it was used for. He was adamant that she had ordered the 800 number, and that the charges were legit. I told him to close the account, and he supposedly did.

I then called out local telephone company and complained to them. They told me she had probably been "slammed" by this company, and they could send back the charges to ILD. That's what we did. Her phone bill was credited. They also told me to let them know if it happened next month.

Well, next month's bill came and again there were charges from ILD. I called my local phone company again to complain, and they again sent the charges back to ILD, and credited my daughter's phone bill.

I called ILD back and got the same man who told me he could send me a copy of the application my daughter supposedly filled out for the 800 number. I told him I'd like that. That was a month ago, and I have yet to receive a copy of the alleged application, probably because there is none.

I am very angry that ILD chose to rip off a handicapped person. We must all watch our monthly telephone bills for this kind of nonsense.

My advice to anyone slammed by ILD, call your local telephone company and have them send back the bogus charges to ILD. They can do that, and you won't have to pay.
