S&E Associates
Misleading Sale Pitch

Miscellaneous

S&E Associates has an ad on careerbuilder about a "corporate trainer" position or something similar. I responded and replied to their HR director. Her name is Nikki Autry. The first interviewed with her lasted 10 minutes. The second interview with the manager, Erin Clay, was scheduled for the next day. She greeted me and after a few perfunctory moments passed off for small talk, I was paired with a salesman, going door to door pitching office supplies for Quill, a subdivision of Staples.

We were given a map of a section of the city and commenced with a small business park. The guy went into some doctor's office, completely ignored the "No Solicitation" sign and started his spiel: "Hi, I'm the new account manager for Quill, your next door neighbor is using us for office supply and he/she is saving tons of money...". Although he was thrown out of there within 5 minutes, he was unfazed and kept going into the next office using the same line even though that was completely untrue (the next door neighbor just threw his ass out and never was a customer). At the last business on that floor, he even went so far as saying that everyone on that floor was using Quill, so why shouldn't you?

Some of the people were interested and asked for a business card or something, but the guy said: "We don't print business cards to keep the cost down so that we can pass the saving to you." The truth is they just want to sign people up and then pass it along to the next guy to deal with it if there are any complaints. How much you get paid depends on how many new customers you suppose to sign up each week. (Between 6-12 per week). You pay your own gas daily.

To me this is a multi-level sales scam. Pure and simple. Save your resume paper, gas money, and time for something more substantial and worthwhile.

Hope this helps,
