Almost $300 worth of supprise charges on bill

I have used Penrose Motors twice in the last two years, both times their service was excellent but both times upon collecting my vehicle there was additional surprise charges added onto the bill that I was not previously informed about until after the work was complete and the parts installed.

Three weeks ago I took a vehicle there to have a blown head gasket repaired, after two grossly underestimated quotes both about $1000 out I was finally told it would be $3400 inclusive to repair this vehicle, I agreed to that figure and asked them to start the repair, I was told they would call if they found anything that would increase the price any further.

I never heard anything else from them until at the workshop collecting my car I was then invoiced an additional $286.30 making the total $3689.30. Their only explanation for the additional charge was they "needed to flush the oil", the owner then walked away and started dealing with another customer.

In a previous experience with them about a year ago I had a radiator and water pump done on another vehicle and upon collecting my car the exact same thing there was additional charges on the invoice for things that I was not called about and definitely did not approve.

On both times I collected my vehicle I felt ripped off and as if I was taken advantage of for not being mechanically minded. Unfortunately I will no longer be using or recommending Penrose Motors, this is a shame as they are friendly and very informative but I have questions about their honesty when it comes to money."
