Student loan servicer makes paying by phone difficult

I pay by check over the phone. I do this because if I mail in the check, they cash it whenever they want, regardless of the date written on the check. I had signed up for direct debit, but they messed it up, took too much money out of my account and refused to refund it. And I could not even cancel it over the phone. I had to fax a letter stating I wanted it canceled.

Can their call center staff do ANYTHING? What is the point of calling them? They cannot even take a payment. They cannot give you your account number after playing 20 questions, but you can create an online account with just your social and get it that way? That makes absolutely no sense! I think these people are completely useless.
