Co-Signer Pursued for Student Loan Despite On-Time Payments

About five years ago I co-signed with this company on a student loan for my son-in-law. He hoped to study in England and could not obtain a loan for foreign study from any Brazilian bank.

My son-in-law has since graduated and holds a very senior position in the Brazilian government. He has paid all his loan installments on time, and pays more than is due. For the last year I have been receiving threatening, harassing letters sent by American Education Service. Rather than contacting my son-in-law or expecting payment from him, they pursue me. I live on Social Security Disability, and now I am harassed because of their own accounting mistakes. Recently they sent a notice demanding a check from me for the full loan amount. The sum was nearly double what was borrowed, which I consider fraud.
