I decided to cancel direct tv because it cut out in any sort of bad weather and is more expensive then cable. The first time i called they refused to let me cancel and i was on the phone for a hour i was finally told to cancel was $20 a month for every month left on the contract. I agreed knowing that i only had 6 months left and they tried charging me over $300. After 2 more hour long conversations i found out they tried to add an extra year onto my contract for having a receiver moved room to room. After fixing this problem and taking care of a charge for a receiver they sent me that did not work i was able to cancel. About a month after canceling and almost $300 in fees i got a bill for $5 for a ppv movie from 6 months ago.

Go to a bar for the football package its not worth having direct tv.
