Walmart Visa Gift/Debit Card

Do not buy as a gift or do not use. I was given as a gift a Walmart Visa gift/debit card (w / Visa logo). Please to not consider giving this as a gift. It is marketed by Walmart as a gift card which can be loaded and reloaded once it it activated... They do not disclaim all the facts as to the cards activation and use.

You are give a toll free number to activate the card. It is an automated system with no ability to speak to a live representative. You are asked to provide propierty information such as name, dob, address, phone number and SSN#. You are also charged a monthly fee of $4.95 while the card holds a balance. It is also possible for you to incurr this monthly charge once the balance is zero. Which means it's possible for you to start running a negative balance, so when you do re-load the card your negative balance will be charged out, so the amount your re-loading, your balance will be less than the dollar amount your loading. This card is stated to be non-refundable.

I was not satisfied with the activation requirements. I decided to speak to a representative at a local Walmart here in Las Vegas. I was first told by a customer returns representative, that nothing could be done. I asked for a manager. This manager was very accomodating. He inatially stated the card could not be refunded. When I pressed him he began to relent. Advised him this card is marketed by Walmart, even though the processing/accounting is held by GE Money...

Long story short I told him what I expected him to do. Advised him I wanted to cancel the card and have it issued in the form of a Walmart Gift Card. Which he did. He also admitted the Visa debit card is a bad product and advised me to caution others to not use these cards...

Take heed take his advise don't buy or use any Walmart card that says debit with either a visa or master card logo.
