US Express
Left me peniless and stranded in Tennessee

I was 'hired' by US Express whilst I was living in Kansas City. I made a few poor decisions and ended up near broke and needing a home. I had my CDL for 8 years when this happened. My driving and criminal records were squeaky clean.
I thought I would kill two birds with one stone and drive for US Express OTR. That would solve my financial and living crisis. So I was 'hired' by US Express and they sent me a bus ticket from KC to Memphis. That was one miserable and long bus trip.
When I arrived in Memphis, I was put up in a hotel paid for by Us Express. At this time, I was down to my last $35. No big deal I thought. I had a warm bed and a little food to hold me over until my orientation was done and I was on my way.
Well no such luck. I was picked up for the 40 minute ride to the offices of Us Express from the hotel. All was going great. Everyone was cordial and nice. I was filling my paperwork out and got to the second packet, then as if someone just threw the switch, EVERYONE turned ugly and combative. I was told to call human resources immediately. I did, and was told I was terminated and the offer of employment was withdrawn.
I then asked them why, and they said my driving record was not up to standard. I KNEW my record was completely and utterly spot on, so I told her BULLCRAP! (actually used another term, but this is edited). I then asked how you can terminate' me when I have not even filled out my paperwork and started working yet. I was not given an answer. I do not cry often and I am a pretty tough and resilient guy, but I broke down right there. I was broke and homeless in a strange pace with no way of supporting myself. I then asked for them to pay my bus fare to where my family was, and she said and I quote.."There is no need to talk that way and act like you are acting. You need to get off of US Express property NOW!!! Or we will call the police."
I was taken aback. So they gave me a ride back to the hotel. Actually they gave me a ride to the vicinity of the hotel. We were about 12 blocks away, and I was then told by the Us Express manager giving me the ride. "This is as far as I am driving you. You need to get out of my van."
So here I am broke, homeless, and broken down in a strange city with zero clue what to do. Luckily enough for me my parents bailed me out and sent me some cash for a bus ride to their place. I am not a kid. I was 29 when this happened and it was beyond demeaning for me to ave to call my parents and cry for help.
It was not fun, not pleasant, and not worth the headaches. The emotional trauma I was put through by Us Express was horrible. If I can just get the word out and hope no one will make the same mistakes I did, I will feel much better.
