BEWARE excessive cancellation fee — DO NOT USE VONAGE

I signed up for Vonage for my very rural vacation cabin and found out that their service will not work with the internet service available in my location. There are no alternative internet service providers at that rural location so I cannot use the service at all. I called to discontinue the service and they are charging me a $145 disconnect fee. This is on top of the $65 that I paid to connect the service and the $14.95 monthly fee that I paid for the service that I was never able to use. They were completely inflexible — the supervisor arrogantly invited me to go ahead and write the company headquarters but advised me that I will not be successful in challenging the charge. He also told me at the end of our conversation that he had just charged my account and the charge had gone through. I admit that I should have read all of the fine print of their service contract so my advice READ THE FINE PRINT OF THEIR SERVICE CONTRACT before clicking yes. Better yet, don't use Vonage at all.
