Unauthorized deduction from my checking account

When checking my bank account on line today, I noticed a debit of 29.95 which I do not remember authorizing.

This is the first time I've ever had an unauthorized debit and it is a bit un-nerving, to say the least. Is there anything I can do to recover my 29.95? Is there something I can do to protect myself from repeating this uncomfortable situation again?
