Unauthorized payment from checking account

Last week I I tried to pay a bill with my debit card and the transaction was denied. This was odd because I knew I had the money to cover the bill in my account. I go to check my checking account and find out that there has been a transaction for $181.00 taken out of my account. I call the bank and they tell me that Direct TV had taken the money. And I had NOT authorized the payment. So I call them and they tell me that they have the right to take the money out. Get this... The account is not even in my name! It's my brothers account! I let him use my card to make a payment once and they came back to take money from me! Incredible!

So now I'm on the phone with Direct TV and they want MY banking statement with the transaction on it. How in the world do you need this. You knew where to go to get the money. So obviously somebody has my bank info! Then the rep tells me to give them 8 days to refund the money. I wait 8 days and nothing.

So now, I have to call back and start all over again. Now the rep tells me that she has to verify the bank/card information with the account holder! Dumb, dumb - it"s not the account holder"s card! How can HE verify MY card? I ask for the finance office and it's like I asked for the president. "No one talks to the finance office... We don't even talk to them. You have to send a letter." After a couple of minutes banging my head up against this Indian brick wall, I find this site. Now I see all the complaints for the same thing!

My question is, do I send these crooks my information. Or do I go to the authorities because they illegally accessed my account?
