He never gave me my down payment for an apartment i didnt get back, the amount was 1000us$, knowing that i work for a law firm the guy is asking for it, seriously and he will get it

I work for a law firm and looked for a apt for rent, i found one i liked and put a down payment of us $1000 and didnt end up getting the apt, and than i found one on my own and asked for my deposit back, instead i got a statement from the bank saying RETURN REASON_A NOT SUFFICIENT FUND CHECK twice, he told me that the checks work and that he put lock on the checks and the lock is gone at the bank on 68street in 2nd ave, i called the bank and they sad there is no such thing as a lock!!!

Now if I dont get a certified check real soon of course I will file for a law suit and make him wish he didnt play around so much
