Monthly charges for unordered, unused "unlimited 800 number service"

Your past posts on OAN SERVICES alerted me that my AT&T bill also had monthly charges of: $8.23 (GREENTREE DATA, INC) 0.41 (Local Gov Fees and Taxes) = $8.64 (OAN SERVICES, INC), from the months of June'08 - Nov'08.

I called the OAN phone number provided on the AT&T bill (1-800-295-3933) to get a recorded msg, then got transferred to another number to get a voicemail response saying "the voicemail box is FULL". (WHAT!?!)

I called the GREENTREE DATA phone number also provided on the AT&T bill (1-800-627-1091) to get the direct voicemail response (the same one) saying "the voicemail box is FULL".

I called AT&T (1-800-288):
I ask: What is OAN and what is the charge?
AT&T says: By federal law, no third-party billing info can be presented to AT&T. Their screen shows no info on OAN, or any details of the charge.
I said: I won't pay my bill until the 6 months of OAN charges are credited.
AT&T credits back the 6 months of $8.64 charges=$51.84
I can now pay my bill online ($5 charge if paid by phone!), as the credit is immediately applied.

I ask AT&T if the OAN charge will appear next month?
AT&T says Yes, because AT&T has no control over third-party billing. I ask AT&T for OAN contact information, beyond the two phone numbers I have on the AT&T bill.
AT&T gets "someone" on the phone. (WOW!) Then AT&T quickly leaves the phone conversation, saying the AT&T part of the business is complete. (OK)
My comment: AT&T was courteous and cordial and helpful, resolving the AT&T part of the issue.

I am on the phone with "someone", not from OAN and not from GREENTREE DATA. I introduce myself, but, after several tries, can't get an understandable name and can't get a return contact number. (WHY?):

I ask: What is OAN?
"Someone" says, OAN is a third party billing company in partnership with AT&T to get the charge to appear on my AT&T bill, but not affiliated with AT&T. (Huh?)

"Someone" asks the billing dates for the 6 charges.
I say that the charges are the first of every month from June to Nov.

I ask: What is the monthly charge for?
"Someone" says, the charge is for an "unlimited 800 number" that they claim I ordered. I ask for the order details. "Someone" says I ordered this through my AT&T email account. I state that my AT&T email account was used to set up DSL at my home 20 years ago, and that email account has not been used since (I use yahoo and gmail) and certainly has not been used by me in JUNE'08 to order an 800 number (I use SKYPE and FREE internet phone).

"Someone" states that they cannot issue 6 months of credit to me, but can provide 3 months of credit, back to my AT&T bill. But: - AT&T credited back 6 months. I don't want the OAN credit. But he did not understand. (ARGH!) I ask if the OAN charge will cease from my monthly bills. "Someone" says it will never appear again. There will be no OAN charge on my AT&T bill.

My comment: I don't trust this "someone" or what this person says. The confusion, lack of clarity, lack of logic is unsettling. OAN and GREENTREE "should not" appear on my AT&T bill, but we will see.

I filed a complaint with the FTC, also. I have not filed with the BBB yet.

This was not easy, but it was not as hard as some of the antics you people have stated in your complaints.

Hope this info helps anybody out there with the same/similar issue (s).
