Contacted by mail, I called to ask for info and dispute claim. They will not give me any info, sent a form to report identity theft

I was contacted by mail, after many phone calls. The letter that was sent asked me to recieve free insuranceIf I would mail them a check for $6657.52. After calling the company on 10-21, I was told that they were trying to collect a debt. I asked for all information on the debt. After talking with a supivisor, the lady asked if I wanted to dispute the debt. I told her yes and she told me they would send me a form by mail.

When I recieved the letter with the form. There was no place to dispute, only a claim form to report identity theft. This letter gave me 20 days to report back.

In the small print on the letter they gave me notice that I would be reported to the credit agencies as a negative on my file. I recieve a quarterly report from all three of the agencies. This debit I do not owe and has never shown on my report for the last 9 years.

Someone is trying to rip me off for 6657.52 dollars. This is not right and I am willing to fight back. I am a poor man on disablity with a very good credit rating. I pay my bills every month and am smarter than to owe money I know nothing about. Can something be done to help?
