Capitol One MasterCard—Most Deceptive of All!

Around the end of I received an application from these people and filled it out. They sent the card with a credit limit of $325. This seemed fair, since I was earning very little at the time.

I used it to the max (eventually) and went over my limit by a few dollars, but never realized it, since the transaction was approved. They then began assessing over-limit charges. Then my company moved to India and I began collecting Unemployment.

Since I had been paying for credit protection all this time, I applied and approved. To my way of thinking, this should have paid my monthly bill. But that is not what happened.

My bill was due on the 15th of every month. "Credit protection"—which came from them—did not pay the bill until the 30th, resulting in stiff late fees and more over-limit charges. So instead of my bill getting SMALLER, it actually grew to $1,935!!!

I have been trying to fight this for years with them, Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union, to no avail. Everybody refuses to adjust the amount.

Here's a fact for you: I used to do collections, both with consumers and business-to-business. Only once, as a last resort, I used an outside agency. When they asked me for the amount owed, I put in the amount owed. But this is something you cannot ever forget: at no time was i required to give an accounting of how i arrived at my figures, or furnish proof of any kind.
