Cancelled account

On August 6th i paid off my credit card with a cashiers check from Elga bank, after i made the payment i called to have my account with them cancelled. I have talked with customer service many times to see why i was getting these late fees on my account when it was cancelled months ago, they told me i never cancelled my account which as they can see i haven't used the card in months. I recently talked with them again and again told them i cancelled my account and they told me it was still active, now i have all these late fees on my account that i feel i am not responsible for... If you can help me in any way please do so, this company are crocks
