I paid $83.80 for a service that was supposed to cost $38.90. At best, my first check was delayed. At worst, it was a scam to get me to pay more money

I paid $83.80 for a service that was supposed to cost $38.90. I was threatened with bad karma and being turned over to a collection agency. Both checks, one for $38.90 and one for $44.90, were cashed. The $44.90 check included a late fee of $6. I sent copies of my canceled checks. I wrote three letters that were ignored. I never received an apology or a refund, and I was told I never responded when I did.
