Electric Company is running a racket!

I am fired up at the Murfreesboro Electric Dept! Today I'm writing EVERYONE about the racket they are running on consumers. Looking at my current bill, I'm getting charged fees in excess of $69 for an $89 light bill that's not even 30days late.

It began last month on Sept 8th. While sitting at home with electric still running, I paid my bill online. I returned home later that evening to find that THE LIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF!!! Apparently, they had just been turned off as the food in the freezer was still good and frozen. When I contacted the tech on call, he advised me "when you are in jeopardy of being cut off, call in after you make an online payment". I told him that I didn't think it was required to call.

This month, I get charged a $65 reconnect fee in addition to $4.47 late fee because my current charge of $89.43 wasn't paid by due date of Sept 15th. Today, my total payment due is $158.90.

I spoke with Norma, a cust svc rep and Charlie Wiggs, a supervisor, and neither see a reason that I should be credited the $65 even if I did pay before the lights were cut off. THEY WEREN'T KIDDING EITHER!!! They went on to justify why I should be charged regardless of whether my lights were on or not because I went into "collections" on the 25th, 10days after the due date. UNREAL!!! These fees make up more than 78% of my actual bill. Not to mention that I've paid a $300 deposit when I established svc with them. My average monthly bill is $85-$90. What's the deposit for? Late/Reconnect Fees???

It is my goal to put everyone and myself on notice to this kind of racketing!!! With an economy that we are all faced with today, this kind of greed is completing unwarranted and damaging.
