Detroit Free Press Treats Carriers Like Dogs

I have been a carrier for the Detroit News and Free Press for several years. We used to do ok. Now this company is ripping the carrier off BAD! We used to make $. 01 per insert, now they've cut it to $. 0025 per insert and they're the size of a comic. Gas prices have tripled but out per copy delivery rate has been systematically cut through the years. I make $. 15 per copy to deliver a paper and we now deliver 7 of them (Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Investors Business Daily, Financial Times, and New York Times). If we miss a delivery or if someone steals a paper on a customer we are charged a fee of $5.00 per error. Isn't this extortion?

Recently we have been delivering a TV book with the Sunday paper to certain customers that have signed up for it. We are not paid for delivering this book, it is considered part of the Sunday edition. If we miss a customer it's charged as a $5.00 error. I deliver around 400 papers. All different. People come and people go on and off vacation, quit, start, switch paers, add papers, and if you miss it...$5.00 is charged to the carrier.

This company's executives claims that the paper is hurting. Do you think for a minute that they took a pay cut? Don't kid yourself. We're out there rain or shine, all night, every night delivering these papers. If it wasn't for us no one would have a peper waiting for them in the morning. Does the Detroit News or Free Press care? Hell NO. We're nothing but dogs. Don't buy the rag. Put these people out of business. Get your news somewhere else (like the internet or TV). Let these cake eaters eat scum. I'm mad as hell. All the carriers are. This is an atrocity.
