Howard Johnsons - Delk Road
HoJo's 10 minutes to get out, NO REFUND!

My family checked in Howard Johnson's Delk Road on 08/06. I stated I would probably be there for approx. 3 weeks and asked if I could view the inside of a double room.

The room I viewed was acceptable, so I completed the registration form. I asked if I could have a room closer to the front and was told there weren't any. No cars in the parking lot.

I was then given a room in the middle. Because of my wife's illness, I took on the responsibility of cleaning the room since this was a weekly stay and Housekeeping Services aren't offered daily.

I asked Housekeeping for clean sheets and was told I couldn't get any. I called the front office and explained what I needed and was told I had to wait until 2:30pm, 4 hours later.

After a couple of days I realized the beds were off their frame and needed replacing, so I requested another room. Maybe this is where the problem began.

My son's wallet was missing, we called the office and asked if HouseKeeping had found a wallet and could we go to the prior room to see if it fell behind the bed, we were hung up on. We again called the office and before we could get a sentence in, we were hung up on again. This behavior was strange so I went to the office and asked in person, they stated no wallet was turned in and I would have to wait to look in the other room for the wallet. (No one was in the room)

The next day, I got a call from the front office stating I needed to pay additional money, when I asked why, I was told for an additional person. I inquired again why, and was told I had to pay for my son. I asked aren't children free, they stated no, so I indeed paid the additional money. The next day my son got off the school bus (as he has been doing everyday for approx. A week) and was walking when he was approached by a young man in plain street clothes, he was asked where he was going.

My son pointed toward the room but kept walking. The young man started asking a lot of personal question in which my son did not respond. (My children were taughted at an early age to NEVER talk to strangers).

My son noticed the same young man following him and contiplated whether or not to knock on our door because he didn't want this person knowing which room was his.

Upon entering the room, my son repeated what was said and stated someone was following him, my wife and I both went to the door and he pointed the man out to us.

The man asked my husband who did we just let in our room? My husband stated, "my son", the man stated you didn't tell us that, I called the police, he has to get off the property, then left heading toward the office.

I left to go to the office to get to the bottom of what was going on. While away, the Owner (had on Howard Johnson Apparell) knocked on the door and told my son to get ready to go to jail, he was screaming at him stating the police is on the way, get off the property.

My wife stated our son was a minor and couldn't leave, so he said, all of you get out, 10 minutes, NO REFUND.

At the office I couldn't get anyone to tell me what was going on. We waited until Marietta Police Department got there, feeling that if we showed that we were paid they would either have to give us our money back and get to the bottom fo the confusion.

They asked what happened we explained, showing all the receipts where we had paid. We were then told, the office staff wanted us off their property and we had to leave, we asked could we get our money back, we were told unfortunately no, and to be glad it was a civil matter and no one was going to jail.

Still not understanding why we had to leave and leave without our money, we asked why, and was told by the Officer that the office staff stated we broke the rules, we asked what rules, the officer shrugged his shoulders stating this was a civil matter, and we would have to take it up accordingly, and to make sure we leave the property.

Howard Johnson's - Delk Road, misrepresented themsleves to the officers when stating they didn't know that I had a son and he was tresspasing, when they informed me that children weren't free, I paid additonal money for my son. Mind you, I requested the room with double beds to accomodate the three of us, and I could have gotten a KING for a lesser price.

There are a lot of litigating circumstances which makes this experience overwhelming for my family.

My wife has Cancer, she is on a lot of medication, we don't have money to give away. My son doesn't understand why the Police Officer couldn't help us when he didn't do anything wrong. He followed the direction in which he was taught, do not talk to strangers, do not give your name or personal information to anyone. If a grown up approach you have then to hold on and get one of your parents.

A couple days prior I saw another family being asked to leave, I don't know the circumstances of why they had to leave but the sheer fact that he took our money for the week and the additional money and said NO REFUND, I am begining to believe this may be a pattern for this owner.
