National Child Support
Scamming Both Sides in Child Support Cases

Miscellaneous

My wife's ex-husband used this company to collect child support for him. Even though court ordered payments were being made on time as ordered by Broward County Florida Courts, they told him they could get him a "lump" payment for all monies due up to the children's 18th birthdays. (they were 14 and 16 at the time).

They began calling my wife at home and work daily, even though she explained she was fulfilling her court ordered support obligations. A man who represented himself as "SGT. Steve Smith" of the "National Child Support Enforcment Agency" told her that court order was now null and all payments up to her children's 18th birthday were now due in full (to the tune of some $13,000.00 plus), and if he didn't receive the full amount within 10 days, he was going to come to her place of work and she would be "arrested, handcuffed and embarrassed' in front of all her co-workers and customers. (she is a waitress).

When I called to ask him what was going on I had a bit of difficulty being put through when I asked for him by his self proclaimed "SGT's" title, but he eventually got on the line. His response was "Did you hear me say any of that"?

If that was the game they wanted to play, fine. He called her at work again the following day, and once again went through his threats. This time however, her boss was aware of what was going on and when he called my wife to the phone, he, his wife and another employee all came to the phone along with my wife. When she answered, she did so with the phone on speaker.

They all heard his threats this time. When I called him again that day and explained this to him he responded by saying that was illegal and he could sue me for that, and unless I had some "Real, Legal Proof", I needed to stop making false accusations and, that if I wanted to help my wife, I would encourage her to pay this debt immediately.

I called and asked to speak to their legal department and got someone who said she would "relay my message to the appropriate people".

A complaint with Ohio's State Attorney General's Office revealed that they are simply a private, for-hire collection agency and represent no law enforcement agency of any kind, anywhere.

And, here is where they scam both parties. My wife resumed her normal monthly support payments shortly thereafter. Only now, because her ex signed a contract with them to collect the support money, National Child Support gets one-third of these payments each month, even though they did absolutely nothing. I guess he should have read the fine print. That's his problem, but i think it's sleazy at best on the part of National child Support.

We're not able to afford an attorney to pursue this, I'm sure they count on that fact when they take a case. But, something tells me it's most likely illegal to represent yourself as an official law enforcement officer and threaten people with public arrest.

Whether you are a parent who owes child support, or the one to whom it is owed, beware of these people.
