Storage Bait and Switch

I hired this company to move my household items. The Viva driver and his team arrived on time on 7/25, the agreed upon date. I was 100% accurate on what I had listed in my inventory. The driver admitted this yet he hiked the price form $2500. To $4,050. He knew I was leaving for NY the following day so he believed that I would have no option but to pay the higher price, which I refused to. I contacted the company at 8 am Friday morning, the very agent who had been e. Mailing me and calling me almost daily, but she is yet to respond.

The driver was unable to justify the new amount; he simply pulled it out of a hat. There was an additional charge for stairs, wrapping and supplies, all of which I accepted and agreed to pay but he had no justification for the additional $1500 amount. He simply kept saying "This is a big move" which I know that by industry standards it is not. The reason the big companies like Atlas refused to move me was that they said they do not do 'small moves' like mine. The company which eventually moved me came with a truck smaller that the Budget truck Viva came with and my things did not even fill 1/3 of the truck, a team of two movers and the driver were done in under three hours, so they can provide weight and cubic feet info to prove that the amount Viva was trying to force on me way exceeded the rate per lb or cubic feet they had sent me and therefore constitutes a breach of contract or at the very least bait and switch. What was most disturbing was that the driver had his team take out all their crates, blankets and packing material and then said he would not pack anything until I signed a new contract agreeing to the $4050 price. It felt like blackmail.

The public needs to be protected from companies like this.in the end it cost me the price of the hotel room I was supposed to stay in at LAX Friday night, I had to rent a car, rebook my ticket to NY which cost and additional $400, I had prepaid my NY hotel room and lost the cost of one night's stay, all major inconveniences and additional expenses all because of a dishonest company.
