This company wanted me to wire $3,400 via Western Union as part of a customer satisfaction survey

I received a paper letter from this company saying that I had been selected to participate in their Custormer Service Evaluation Survey Program. I was going to receive $400 for participating in this survey. The company whose customer service I was going to evaluate was Western Union.

Enclosed with a letter there was a check for $3,970 written under my name.in order to receive the compensation I was supposed to deposit the check into my bank account and immediately wire $3,400 to them via Western Union. Then, I was supposed to complete my report of Western Union's customer service and submit it to them too.

If somebody has any info on how to report these guys (either to the police or to some government agency) please let me know. I was used to getting e-mail scams, but real paper letters to my house is a little bit too much...
