We Have to Stop This

Miscellaneous

I called my supposed assignment coordinator Elizabeth Jackson at 403-383-9084 to let her know that the bank wouldn't cash my check. (When I scanned the check to send by email to the Chief of Police, it showed VOID all over the check). Elizabeth was frantic and told me she needed to check with someone and she would call me right back. That was yesterday. I haven't heard a word from her.

I notified the Federal Reserve and this is the response I got from them:

Dear Sue:

Thank you for your recent correspondence to the Federal Reserve concerning an email you received from Police Chief Daniel T. Hatten concerning a check cashing scam.

Please be aware that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is, among other things, responsible for protecting consumers against unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent practices. An FTC Consumer Alert that specifically addresses check overpayment scams can be accessed online at http://www.ftc. Gov/ftc/consumer.htm by clicking on the "E-Commerce and the Internet" link and then scrolling down to "Check Overpayment Scams: Seller Beware." This Consumer Alert contains instructions for consumers who believe that they have been targeted by a check overpayment scam and wish to file a complaint with the FTC. You might wish to file a complaint with the FTC in accordance with this Consumer Alert.

Again, thank you for contacting the Federal Reserve.

Sincerely,

JPD
Board Staff

I filed a report with the FTC. I advise you to do the same. I also filed a report with the FBI. It's a good idea to send the orignal letter and check to them.

Together ~ we have to stop this!
