I got a letter and a check

Business & Finance

It sounds too good to be true. I called Elizabeth Jackson who is supposedly my assignment coordinator. That telephone is a cell phone. She told me to cash the check and do my shopping at Wal-Mart and then to call her again. I had a hard time understanding her ~ she wasn't from Minnesota.

I checked online for the business in Trenton, NJ. That business didn't exist for 50 miles from the area.

I have forwarded the check and letter by email to my attorney and the Chief of Police. This is what Cheif wrote me:

Thank you for contacting me about your concern. No you should not cash this check or get involved with these people in any way. This is a new version of an old scam. The check is no good but the cash or check you send these people will be good. When your bank discovers the Magna Check is no good you will be forced to pay them back the $3,975.00 and you will be out the amount of money you sent the fraudulent company. The people involved in this will at some point ask you to provide personal information such as social security numbers, and bank account numbers claiming they will deposit money directly into your bank account. The fact is they use this information to drain your accounts of all assets and create fraudulent accounts using your information to acquire additional money in your name.

I will be taking this information you have given me and making our local financial institutions aware of this new scam.

If you have additional information or questions please contact me at your convenience.

Respectfully, your Chief,
Daniel T. Hatten
