Publishers Renewal Servic Readers Choice
Reader Choice tricked with sales trickery customer into a long term contract

Miscellaneous

Years ago my husband had a contract with this company and recieved magazines. Last month they called him up and portrayed his account as and contract as not completed. They mixed previous contract sentences with words of renewal and convienced my husband that he had not yet met his contract.

In fear of ruining his credit he thought he had to finish what he once thought was all done and completed.in the end of the conversation they got him to renew his contract and subscriptions. He did not want to do this.

Neither of us has recieved any magazines in the past two years nor now since they are taking money out of our checking account. They are now taking out $39.75 for magazines that I am not getting.

I called them and spoke to a supervisor. She tells me that my husband agreed to the renewal and provided an account number to start payments. He did so under false pretense. I tried to cancel seeing that I have not recieved anything. I was told that I cannot. If I did want to cancel I had to pay them half of what would be owed to them throughout the contract time. If I thought canceling a cell phone was bad. They want 700 free dollars from me to cancel without recieving anything for it.

After doing the math, each of the four magazines would be $10 a month equalling $120 a year. Men's health is not that much per year.

I just want to cancel it. I told them they can keep the two payments they already recieved. I just want to cancel what was a big misunderstanding on the part of a soldier that has fought for our countries freedoms and is injured and a clever sales person.
