Consolidated Media ripoff misrepresented the terms of the contract

A woman called me one day at work saying it was my lucky day. That she worked for a company where I could get several magazines each month for $13 a month. Sounded good to me. It was explained to me that this was a two year membership with Consolidated Readers. I would pay $26 a month for a year which would take care of the payments for the second year. My subscriptions would stop after the two year membership. My father said there must be some catch and advised me not to go through with the membership. But they made everything sound so good! What I did not pay attention to was the amount of issues that I would be receiving. Well, I did notice the amount I was to receive but I did not realize that there were 5 years worth of magazine subscriptions.

How was I supposed to know when it was explained to me over the phone that this was a 2 year contract and that $26 a month would cover my payments for those 2 years? They only sent me payment coupons for the first year $26 a month. So, I thought everything was on the up and up. When I figured out something fishy was going on was when a lady called to ask if I was receiving my magazines in a timely manner and in good condition. Then she asked me if I liked receiving the Rolling Stone and Glamour (2 of my subscribed magazines) and I told her yes. She then told me that if I wanted to continue getting these two magazines I needed to sign on for another 36 months. (Now keep in mind that I was about 7 months into the 1st year and I was already supposedly schelduled to receive another 1 1/2 years of these magazines.) Well I told her I guessed I didn't want to receive these 2 magazines anymore if I had to sign on for an additional 36 months and she hung up on me! This made me very concerned! So I called the customer service number the next day to make sure everything was on the up and up. They said they would get someone to call me back. Two days later a representative of the company called me at work to ask me what the problem was. This is when it was explained to me that I was on a 5 year contract with them for all of my magazines for $26 a month. This was absolutely NOT what I agreed to!!! When I told her that she got very rude and said that I had confirmed this with the company twice. That is not exactly true. I agreed to a certain amount of magazines for a 2 year period at $26 the first year not a 5 year period at $26 a month for each year. I feel that the membership to this magazine service with Consoldiated Readers was misrepresented to me. They intentionally tricked me into a contract that I was not clearly explained the terms on. I would NEVER have agreed to the 5 year contract that I now find myself stuck in and I NEVER agreed to pay more than $26 a month for the first year of membership.
