I recieved a phone call yesterday from someone claiming to be from dish network - i usually do not hand out info over the phone - but because i was suppose to set up with them through verizon... I figured it was them calling me back, after giving me the promotions (that are actually valid) and giving the indian sounding lady my information, she put me on hold to "access my credit report" i thought it was fishy that there were no promotions or music when i was put on hold, then a guy picks up and gives me a run around about accessing my credit report, saying he will call me back in 15 minutes - he gives me the number there, and then says "thanks and godbless".

My little brother works for comcast - so i know there are certain things real telemarketers for those companies can not say - godbless being one of them. So immediately - i called my credit union and had them shut down my card - so NOTHING can go through. He said i was lucky - because someone had been scammed the same way out of 5,000 the day before. I called the 1877 number shortly after shutting down my card - they answered "satellite company" when i asked which company - they said dish, and when i asked where they were based out of - they said south plains, nj & then i hung up. Still i went with my gut instinct - and figured it was a scam.

At first the number came up as PRIVATE CALLER - but the call back number came up the second time. I can not find ANY information on this 1 877 number - online or off... I can only hope they are caught & shut down. I also called the REAL dish network to inform them, and the fraud department didnt seem to interested in investigating they basically told me it could be a dish network dealer - or a scammer, & they either had no way (or) no interest in finding out.

Thanks to my brother - i now know to always get an account number, a confirmation number and never give paperwork over the phone again! Thanks to my gut instinct and my bank... I still have money in my account!
