I purchased a power washer and a 4 year Extended Service Plan ($99). After 2 1/2 years it wouldn't work, so brought it back. The clerk said go pick out a new one, so I did. Returning to the clerk she said she talked to the manager and he said we could not have a new one but the old one would have to be repaired. Speaking with the manager he said because it is over $300 it would have to be repaired. He then said I would have to pay $35 up front for a diagnostic test. I said no and no where in the contract (their handout) does it say that. He said he would not send it for repair if I refused to pay. I said no. He said I had to pay it before he could send it for repair and if I paid it he promised he would refund it when it came back. I said no.
He left and then came back and told the clerk to go ahead and fill out a repair order. When she asked me to sign it, quickly reading it, it said I would pay for a $35 diagnostic fee and pay for the first $60 of the cost of repair. I crossed out those two items and signed it.
On their ESP website it specifically says "No hidden costs and no deductable".
I would call the $35 a hidden cost and the first $60 a deductable. If people across the country are paying this, I would think that Home Depot is receiving a lot of money that is not according to their own contract.
