Dr. Nanda's office assistant contacts me, on his behalf, and sets up an in person meeting at his dental office. This is after requesting a set priced quote to recreate an exisiting printed flyer on the internet on his drnanda.com website.

During our meeting, we did discuss the possibility of trading services for him fixing a broken tooth of mine and he did a preliminary inspection by taking a few photograph closeups of my broken tooth. He wrote up an estimate to fix my tooth at about $350, saying he was giving me a reduced rate he would charge for an insured patient.

Text and flyer design were then supplied to me via email after our meeting. Website was then created from materials supplied and a link was then provided to client for review. I have an email reply directly from Dr. Nanda stating "thanks for the email layout - I like it -on reviewing this I would like to make some changes on the Script..."

After a couple months going by, I contacted Dr. Nanda again asking if he "had been able to transfer the webpage I created over to your website hosting account?" An invoice for the work completed was attached totaling $75.00 for creating the webpage.

Several days later, I recieved this reply from Dr. Nanda "Plans are on hold and there has been no marketing done as my contract with the senior dentist is questionable.

Months later, I contacted Dr. Nanda again and during a phone conversation, he says to me that he "never authorized" this work to be done and that "it was never finished." He then goes on to ellaborate on how he will file a countersuit in small claims court for a consultation he did about my broken tooth, if I try and file a claim against him! This was the first time he ever mentioned anything about a consultation to me.

I sent another email to Dr. Nanda stating that he was given several opportunities to make changes to the site and finished or not, I was requesting payment for the work already completed. He was given until December 31 to send me payment, which he never has submitted to me. Weather he used the webpage or not, the work was done in good faith and payment is still expected.

I don't expect to ever be paid and am posting this as a warning to other webdesigners, vendors or contracters to always get a deposit and a written signed agreement stating the work to be done — before it's too late! Especially from doctors who think they are so high and mighty and don't have to pay for services rendered for them.
