Billed credit card without attempting to verify that the email was active, claimed that I gave blanket permission for renewal by signing up. Utah

Miscellaneous

Noticed an automatic renewal for TGN* Genealogy WFT YR. After trying to reach them for 30 minutes throught their website, I tried for another hour to get them on the phone. Do not use your cell phone minutes! Put a regular/cordless on speaker and go have a nap! They gave wait times of 5-15 minutes each time I tried and tried to press every choice to get through.

Finally the young lady told me that they probably sent me an email and then put the charge through. When asked why they did not try to verify if I still wanted it or not, she said "it is not our responsibility" and began to quote my responsibilityies. I was undiplomatic in telling her that at my grown-up age she could stop telling me what I should be doing and canel my charge with a full refund of $49.99. They did not try any alternate email, nor did they try to send an snail mail renewal notification.

I will be checking my next credit card statement. She stated it will take 5 days to calel and gave me a confirmation number. If I don't see it on there... I will be back in touch with Genealogy.com and my credit card company.
