Slum Lords! Wholly misrepresented apartment complex, Health Hazards, Gang sympathizers

I answered an ad in late June of this year for a " spacious, clean, one bedroom apartment in a safe neighborhood." Well, nothing could have been much further from the truth.

The night I moved in, July 6, I became aware of a very severe roach infestation. I informed the apartment manager of the problem, only to be told that there were numerous other complaints about the infestation and that it would be " taken care of immediately". Their solution? Merely an indoor fogger, which only made the roaches temporarily hide deeper in the crevasses of the apartment and even more profuse only 2 weeks later!!! I have used every method available to try to get rid of these roaches, even hiring a private company to exterminate, at my own expense (I was never reimbursed for this, either). Although I keep my apartment FASTIDIOUSLY CLEAN, the roaches somehow manage to come back. I even got a staph infection on my leg due to the roaches.

This is not the only violation this company is guilty of! The dumpster that is shared between 2 apartment buildings is in an unsafe alley behind the buildings, where known gang members associate, sell, and even use illegal drugs. A great deal of the time, the dumpster is either locked behind a closed gate where no one can get to it, or overflowing with trash, rats, and roaches.

There is cracking and peeling paint in the units, exposing all tenants to unsafe levels of lead from layers of paint from years before. The foundation of the building is very severely cracked, and the stairs to the building are such that they pose a hazard to anyone walking on or underneath them.

That is not even the worst part! They have allowed a violent street gang known as " The Vineland Boys" to pretty much take over the building, ussing the property to sell drugs and hold court in all the common areas. The LAPD has informed me that this building is quickly becoming the " headquarters" for the gang to meet, because the property manager does not care what they do.
It has gotten to the point where I am afraid to even get my mail from the mailbox and I have been warned by the police not to came home after dark., And I am now in fear of my life, as there has been a recent gang-related homicide in the adjoining building.

Numerous calls to the landlord and manager have been to no avail. Even when called by the LAPD, they still maintain that " There is no gang problem in the building."

The manager has refused to let the county health inspector on the property to assess the blatant violation of health codes, and I have been informed by the Leasing Agent that I would not recieve my deposit if I went to the police about the gang problem, or to the heath department about the code violations.

Please, if you live in Southern California, and are looking for an apartment, be sure that the leasing company is not L& B. They will put your health and life in danger.
