Attempts to scam $10k from the mother of the debtor San Diego California

I am still in a state of shock as to what has happened.
I'm told by my mother, that this "law office" (apparently nothing more than a collection agency,) has DEMANDED in full, the ammount of ten thousand dollars. This "man, " proceeded to explain how the Sheriff's Dept. Would be arresting her son tomorrow, if this wasn't resolved immediately. Further CC numbers and banking info was unfortunately collected as a result of my mother's scare; rightfully so!
In brief...$1 k went on the card then and there. The rest was paid on a check that they will hold, until sufficiant funds are available. However the cut-off is Monday. Or your son will be arrested!!!
My mother bless her heart, was willing to do anything to save me from this but unfortunately... Does not have that kind of $... And especially not for some collector claiming to be this "tough guy, strong armed tactic" attorney.
Is there something anyone would like to suggest I do with this?
