Rip off. Fake company

I have been researching government grants online. I got a call a couple of days later from the company telling me I qualified for a government grant. She said she would be mailing me a packet out after they received my payment of $299.95. I told them I wouldn't have any money in the account right now. She said she would set it up to come out on the 1st and if the money wasn't available then to call on the 31st to let them know.

I called on the 31st to let them know. I had to leave a message. I left a message for the customer service person and a message for the specialist person. I wanted to get a hold of somebody because I had been calling all day and nobody would answer. I called on the 1st and had to leave more messages. I finally got a hold of someone in the specialist department.

I explained to the woman that I needed to put a stop payment on it because funds were not available. She said she would. About 15 to 20 minutes later another woman called and said that I couldn't put a stop payment on it because it was too late. I told her that I had been trying to call for the past 2 days and that I left messages. She said I had to call customer service and not the specialists line. I told her I did and she proceeded to tell me that I did not. I then asked her how she knew what I called and did not call. I told her I did call customer service and I left a message. No one called me back.

I asked more questions. She kept giving me the runaround. I told her if it was going to be this difficult then I just wanted to cancel it. She told me I would have to contact my bank to put a stop payment on it. I then told her that I was going to call my bank as soon as I hung up with her.

After I called my bank, I went online to research the phone number given for this company. I typed the number in to google and up came usacomplaints.com. If you are contacted by this company, then just hang up. It's a scam. I should have been more careful.

It's awful when people try to take advantage of other people looking for grants and other things.
