Vector Marketing Corporation
Selling Cutco Knives/Alcas RIPOFF

Miscellaneous

These people are hardcore scam artists. They give you this story about how they have been selling their knives since 1942 or something. That may or may not be true, but I'm not falling for it.

I found an ad about how i can get paid $17 an hour plus commision! How can i resist, right? Well, i sent in my application through workforstudents.com and about 10 minutes later they call me and i have an interview set up for that same day.

The minute i saw the building, I started to wonder. You go up on this crummy elevator you think might just drop instead of taking you to your floor. Once there, they hand you and application. You fill it out and they either call you by yourself or with someone else.

They ask you a couple of questions then go back out to wait. They had a radio on playing some station that has all of todays hits, loudly. Then its a group interview and they show you a demonstration of what we are to sell and how well they work.

I'll tell you the knives ARE impressive but the "assistant manager" seemed kind of confused at times. At one point, high school students walked out of the back room or somewhere. They told us explicitly to come in business attire, since it is a business, but the students were dressed in jeans and baggy clothes, sneakers, etc.

During the demonstration, they explain how they pay. They said 17 per appointment OR the commision, whichever is highest. For all i know, appointments could end up being one in nyc and the other in brooklyn. They never said anything about paying for transportation. You're not going to make much if you have 5 appointments a day, maybe.

They tell you that you never go door to door. They kept using words like ethics, honesty. How they NEVER call people or go to peoples homes without they knowledge or consent. However, when you have an appointment, at the end of you trying to sell them the knives, you have to ask them if they can refer people. The only way to have appointment to make money is to have more people. But what guarantee is that, that we have to get referrals from them?

Then they tell you you have to get the knives yourself. Of course, being an employee you get 70% off. They told me i could either by the sample knives for $147 or give that same amount as a deposit and then when im done with the knives get my money back. I dont believe in a job that i have to pay the employers.

When the presentation is over, they start calling people one by one into a room where they tell you if you got the job or not. I got the job. The entire interview/presentation was about an hour and a half. Once i got home, i did a search and guess what i found? They've been scamming student all over the country.

Since we are mostly students, either ending high school, starting college or ending it, they also entice us with scholarships and interships and so on. I'm not risking it.

To everyone out there, please be careful of places like these. You shouldnt have to pay to get a job.
