Mark Veater&>SCAMMER! Rang my doorbell & ended up "trying" to scam me out of money-I CANCELLED MY CHECK!

February 12th-heard my doorbell ring-went to the door to see a young kid hopping thru my mulch bed on his way from my carport back to my front door. His name was Mark Veater or so he said. Said he was a "post-grad" trying to earn these points for a trip and he was ranting on & on asking about public speaking, etc.

After about 10 minutes of his "selling"... I said "no, we really don't need books/magazines. We have subscriptions to several already"... Well of course, he wasn't giving up... Really wanted these points so I decided to get a Dinosaur Encyclopedia for my son-I paid $5 in cash & $35 on a check-which he said I could cancel & get all my money back if I did it in 3 business days-well... I had no intentions of cancelling & I told him this..."my son REALLY loves anything dinosaurs" so he gave me a receipt and said I'd get the book & my "FREE" sub. To SHAPE in 4-6 weeks.

The next day I did feel easy b/c there wasn't a phone # or website or anything on my receipts so I searched online & found this site... I immediately called my credit union & stop paid the check-I hope my $5 in cash helps his scammin rear-end get back to Coral Springs FL or wherever he's from!!!

I found SSA's phone # on yellow pages & called anyways in hopes of cancelling the order as well as the stop payment check-the lady answered "customer service" & proceeded to tell me to mail or fax copies of my receipt to them & they would send my check back & a "company check" for my $5.. Which I know I WON'T ever see!

I was scammed out of far more in 2006 that's lost & I felt uneasy about the "transaction" afterwards but I did also feel sorry for that kid & his trip/points, etc... Can you believe I even told him goodluck on getting his points? Man, LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!

Now my banks monitoring my acct. Along with that stop payment-now I'm trying to find all my neighbors phone #'s to give them a heads-up so they don't lose too much money! DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING OR ORDER ANYTHING WHERE SOMEONE COMES TO YOUR DOOR ASKING FOR CASH/CHECK UPFRONT-now I realize all those magazines/books give you the option of "BILL ME FIRST" when you send in an order card! Good luck to all of you-hopefully something legally will be done against this "company/individual!"
