Ongoing scam in Manassas going unchecked ripoff

My Daughter is living in the states and trying to go to school. Being stationed in the Military overseas, we try and give her advice but it's tough over the phone.

Recently she tried to buy her first car on her own. Being only 21 she is pretty Nave about the ways you can be scammed. Being new on her job, she brought in her first pay statement reflecting only training hours and not a full pay period. The salesman at American Import Center assured her that it would be okay and that they could finance her.

She gave them $500.00 as a down payment and proudly went home to call Mom and Dad. A couple of days later, they called and told her to bring the car back because the bank had denied financing.

She did as she was asked and requested her money back. (She still wanted the car and acted in good faith by giving the deposit). They said it was their policy to not give back the deposit.

Their failure to secure the financing that was offered is nothing short of breech of verbal contract. After hearing this, I went online to check the company out and was surprised to read another report with almost identical circumstances.

It's unfortunate that people like this can prey on the unsuspecting and get away with it. Nice little scam they have going there; offer financing they KNOW they won't get, talk some poor sap into giving a down payment, call the bank to find out what they already know, and make a call to get the car back.

I would like to see the news get ahold of these people and warn others. They should be ashamed.
