United Family Circulation Fell for the scam too! Door bell rang clean cut looking young man at the door selling magazines to help send his unfunded club baseball team

I was busy trying to get out of the house to pick up my daughter from school when the door bell rang. There was a clean cut looking young man at the door saying that he was embarrassing himself by selling magazines to help send his unfunded club baseball team somewhere. He also said that he was Jackie's son from down the street. I sort of vaguely knew of a Jackie and wanting to be a good neighbor I was willing to help him but I really had to leave.

I explained to him that I had to leave and asked if he could come by later. He said no because he had to turn his money in that afternoon and that it would not take but a minute. I asked him what he was selling and none of it interested me. He said that a lot of people felt that way but he would be pleased to send children's magazines to children's charities. So, I wrote a check for $38 just to get him out of the door.

When, I came home that evening, I told my wife about the incident and she told me that Jackie had no sons and that this sure sounded like a scam. I looked at the receipt and it says clearly&Company not in anyway related to a non? Profit or charitable organization, donation, sponsorship or scholactical (sic) program of any kind.in fact, it is a for profit enterprise. No free gifts, post dated checks or verbal agreements recognized. - Guess they must have been sued.

Anyway, I immediately went on line and cancelled the check. I Can't believe that I fell for this but wanted to add my voice of warning.
