MFA No athletes, no magazines, no hleping military but certainly a scam

Answering a knock at the door, and there were 2 men (late teens early 20s). Asking for money to help their baseball team go on a trip. They were apparently sent over by our neighbor who said "we were nice".

When asked why they were not in school they said they were in the military and home and playing baseball on a traveling team. One said he actually lived up the hill. When asked how the team gets money if they are selling magazine subscriptions to the military overseas, he replied that they get a proceed of the profits. My thought was perhaps just collect check for the team...

When a check was written to the and asked the name, he said MFA. The asked what that meant and it was Marquis Fulfillment Agency very fast. He was asked to repeat it several times which he did. A check was given to him as it was a bit intimidating having the door open with 2 young men peering in.

After the door was closed a internet search was done and low and behold, many complaints. The canceling of the check would have cost just as much as the check so that was not followed up. Then less than 3 minutes later, another knock. This time 2 girls of about the same age. One said they are collecting money for their soccer team. They were told we were no interested as their "friends" were just here. I asked why there were not in school and of course they are home schooled. I asked then where they lived as the alluded to they were from the area. They looked at each other and one pronounced a street that was near with the improper pronunciation.

The door was them close and the police called. A few more neighbors had also complained. I guess the check will get cashed if they are not apprehended and lesson learned.
