NCOA, - when is a cell phone insurance policy NOT an insurance policy?

Miscellaneous

On March 9, I purchased 2 Razr phones from Wirefly. I was offered insurance and told, "This is great insurance - they cover EVERYTHING, even if you lose the phone." So I bought 2 policies at $40 each.

The end of May, my son fell overboard with his phone in his pocket and once I managed to jump through all the hoops and file a "RFS" (request for service), we were ignored for days. I called, I emailed, and finally, I received not one, but TWO letters telling me that "negligent water damage" was not covered. Of course I was mislead by Wirefly as much as ill-served by NCOA, but the story continues.

On July 22nd, MY phone was lost/stolen at a party. We tried the "due diligence" and contacted everyone we could think of, searched the house over and over, and a week later, filed the "RFS" online. These are supposed to be answered in 24-48 hours, so 3 or 4 days later, I tried to contact NCOA by phone again. After a few tries and 2 "general delivery mailbox" message left, I finally called Wirefly who put me on a "conference call" with NCOA. I was told that BOTH my policies had been cancelled - according to them, when the first RFS came through - and that "your check will be in the mail at the end of the week and the account can't be reinstated once it's gone through the computer.

Bottom line: We'll sell you a great insurance policy which will cover all sorts of things, right up until the time you try to use it. I now have an $80 a month family plan and no phone to call on it. NCOA's check is still "in the mail" so who knows how much of my $80 "insurance premium" I'll get back, but I'll guarantee you that it won't cover the $500 or so it'll take to replace my phones.
