JSM International
By "Customer Service Rep, " they actually mean Outside Sales

Miscellaneous

I wish I had come across this site sooner.

Several weeks ago, I applied for a "Customer Service Representative" position with JSM International, and was called in for an interview. I was a bit confused when I arrived at the address they gave me, because the sign over the door said "Oregon Toys" or something to that effect. However, I went in, and was interviewed. The person I interviewed with scheduled me for a day of observation the following day.

Not knowing any better, I showed up the following day, and was introduced to the two guys I would be riding along with. We went outside, and got into a tiny, tiny car crammed full of telescopes and other bric-a-brac. We zipped off to Portland, and pulled into a 7-Eleven parking lot. Apparently, this was the first of many places we would be walking into to sell RC cars, telescopes, and other items. Apparently, JSM gets past the "No Soliciting" signs by stating that they're merely "promoting" the price of the products.

I have never, in my life, been asked to leave the building so many times. We even got kicked out of Safeway!

I can certainly see how, for the right person, this is an exciting kind of job. I'm not knocking the job itself. However, advertising the job as a "Customer Service Representative" position strikes me as a tad bit dishonest. It was a waste of an entire day for me.

Several weeks later, the blisters on my feet have finally healed (yes, I wore heels to the ride-along!). Oh, well. Live and learn... And laugh about it later.
