I have always heard of rip-off door-to-door sales people, but never thought it would happen to me. I was chillin' at home when I heard a knock on the door. My gut instinct said to check through the peep hole but I was expecting my roomates friend Chris to be stopping over so I didn't check. When I opened the door to my surprise it was someone else, a young college aged boy. He instantly said they were out meeting all the neighbors and was a college student from UNC trying to win a trip to cancun and $1000 for school books by selling magazines. He was so bubbly and fast talking that it was all happening so fast. He invited himself in by saying he needed to write my name down on a paper to say he already talked to me. Next thing I know he is in my house pitching a sell to my boyfriend and I about the way he could get more points if we bought certain magazines and we would receive a 2 year free subscription. He said he had already gotten 18000 points. He even had the nerve to ask for something to drink. I fell for the whole pitch and wrote a check for 2 magazines.

Once the guy left I had a wierd feeling, so my boyfriend suggested I check it on the web. Well I got this website and read it was a scam. We instantly hopped into the car with my roommate to look for the guy. There he was standing at the Ameristop by our house. We pulled up and asked the guy for my check back. He showed us the paper I signed and that he could not give it back to us. I got pi*ed and started going off on the guy telling him I was going to call the cops. He started calling me names and yelling at me saying to call the cops because the paper we took from him was considered stealing. After a few minutes of arguing with this guy about it being a scam he said he could not say if it was a scam or not. I grabbed my cell phone and started to call the cops when the guy finally caved and gave me my check. He said he needed the receipts back so I tore them into pieces and threw them at him. He tried to make me feel bad by saying he was going to get creamed by his boss for this. Oh, well I don't feel bad for him.

Beware of these people. It truely is a scam.
