Expired double stuf oreos

I purchased some Double Stuf oreos last night and all of the cookies were either broken or stale. I purchased them at Pauls so they seemed as if they had been there for months, I checked the expiration date and it said May!! What kind of nonsense is that? When I bit into it the cream was like chunky and hard! I used to love oreos but I feel like they're going to crap. Id appreciate it if there was some upkeep on the handling of the cookies and having grocers check the dates to see if they're not expired, from time to time. Thanks so much.
